Milly Riquelme

Milly Riquelme is a pianist and singer born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. She showed interest in music at the early age of 2 years old, appearing a year later in a television program that featured gifted ‘child prodigies’ playing the piano. Milly obtained her degree in Musicology with Honours from the High Institute of Arts (ISA) in Havana. Since 2006, Milly has collaborated as a Musical Director and pianist with Cuban Salsa and Latin bands in Havana. In 2007 Milly joined as a pianist with the popular band Conexion Salsera, where she also recorded an album with them. In addition, she has collaborated with numerous other well-known Cuban musicians that include Nicolas Sirgado and Mayito Ribera, both of whom are pillars of the popular Cuban and Latin jazz in Cuba.

Milly enjoys collaborating with her husband, Tom Toomey, the lead guitarist of legendary band The Zombies. Her CV includes association with a variety of renowned musicians, such as the composer Martin Emslie, Milly has recently worked with Mr. Emslie to oversee the translation of his Oratorio ‘Omega and Alpha‘ from English to Spanish.

In addition, she has played in many musicals and has been involved with numerous theatrical projects, working with the orchestra conductor Arturo Serna. Milly was a contributor to the album Gambia, where she recorded and wrote some of the music. Gambia was a successful project which helped to support the charity ‘Music for Africa‘. She is a passionate musician and has performed extensively as a solo artist.

Additionally, she is known for her work with her exciting Latin band ‘La Cubana’, with whom she continues to perform to this day at a variety of events.

Milly has also played in jazz clubs in London, such as Ronnie’s Scott’s, as well as with many other accomplished musicians, including the Cuban violinist, Omar Puente. Her local work includes a special fundraising event held in Somerset at the ‘Cheese and Grain’, where funds were successfully raised for The Music for Africa charity. Milly opened the show that evening, just before an exciting performance from guitar virtuoso Martin Taylor.

Recently Milly was a guest performer on the Pearl cruise ship (‘On The Blue Cruise’ /Norwegian Cruise Lines) where she took the stage with singer/songwriter Bruce Sudano, as well as doing a great set with Tom Toomey.
